about me
For the last 26 years, I was kickin’ it in Calgary, Alberta (90’s babies can I get a woop woop). Last fall, my man and I packed up our life, shipped all our stuff east to Toronto, Ontario, and drove ourselves west to Rossland, British Colombia. While Toronto was our final destination, we desperately needed a break from the hustle before setting down roots near my man’s incredible Italian family in Ontario. Living five minutes from an alpine ski hill in an adorable little town was that break.
Other than my location in time and space, here are the things you should know about me. I have a sweet tooth reserved for dark chocolate and pinot noir and am a future dog mom in the making (aka the weirdo that hangs out at dog parks to say hi to other peoples’ dogs). I am a serial side-hustler and have fallen in love with the creative & problem-solving brainpower that launching new ideas demands.
I have called myself “co-founder” of 2.5 businesses and “mentor” of dozens more. My past ventures have been collaborative projects or ideas originated by my co-founders. These businesses, grown with the support of my knack for words, relationship building, and sales, were fun. The student founders I mentored as part of my 9–5 working at a university incubator and co-working space were inspiring. Fun and inspiring were great, but my soul, bitten by the entrepreneurship bug, was craving something more… me.
In the spring of 2021, when we arrived in Toronto (unemployed and spare-bedroom-surfing) I resolved to finally start that “more-me” business.
Enter Things My Friends Made, a boutique copywriting and business strategy consultancy. It is an experiment, a question of “what if?”. It is the most me-y business I could start, and also a recognition that I soar only when working with other entrepreneurial makers and builders.
I (oh hey) bring a unique mix of experience to my work:
- running a post-secondary entrepreneurship program
- pitching a tourism business to a crowd of over 300 people
- a wide range of business strategy and copywriting experience in industries ranging from wine (the most important place to start), tourism, home & garden, health & wellness, and economic development.
My approach to business is founded on the belief that doing good is good for the books and that collaborations will 10X your business, always. My copywriting style is playful and authentic and places the reader at the center, always.
If you think I can support your side-hustle/business/mission, slide into my DMs (or whatever the cool kids are saying these days). Or just call me… that works too.
